Questions about getting started

What is independent living support?

Independent living support helps people develop or strengthen skills, routines and confidence that can contribute to greater independence in everyday life. The type and amount of support needed varies from person to person.

Does someone need a specific diagnosis to contact Medak?

Contact us to discuss your circumstances. Medak focuses on individual support needs and goals rather than defining people solely by diagnosis. Final service eligibility will depend on Medak’s approved programs and current service scope.

Will Medak do everything for the person?

Our philosophy is to support independence wherever possible. That often means working alongside someone, teaching or practising skills, offering prompts or assistance when needed, and encouraging the person to take an active role.

Can families be involved?

Yes, where appropriate. Family involvement can be valuable, but it should respect the individual’s rights, privacy, preferences and level of involvement in their own decisions.

Where are services available?

Service locations and coverage areas will be listed as Medak’s programs are finalized. Please contact us for current availability.
